I would like to share with you the amount of success I have had since joining Upstate BNI a little over a year ago. I worked for Paychex for just about 16 years. After 16 years I took on a new endeavor of introducing a smaller national payroll provider to the area. A big task, since Paychex and ADP are the largest and extremely well known in the marketplace. The company I chose to bring to the area was a national provider but much smaller and not known at all.
I decided to join the group after John O'Brien of Homestead Financial invited me to visit. I realized very early on as a guest that the professionals there were a very caring group of individuals that I would enjoy being around. For the first couple of weeks of attending the meeting and sharing more and more about my service, the referrals had not come. As you can imagine, you often wonder if you will get the return on your investment. However, I continued to follow the model that has been put in place of givers gain,, positive mental attitude and continued to build my relationships in the group setting. As well as continuing to have one on one conversations with members of the group to strengthen the trust they may have in me.
Well, over the course of the year I had received over 18 referrals, in which 12 of those referrals resulted in a sale that generated almost $25,000 in revenue to me and the organization I worked for. More importantly, I was able to give back to the group as many referrals as I had received.
After almost 20 years in the payroll industry, I made a personal decision to get out of the industry and pursue other interests in the technology field. As you could imagine, I could not wait to be part of the group again to share my new endeavor. More importantly, I was welcomed back with open arms which I appreciate more than the referrals I had received. Although I do not expect any immediate results in referring my new company, I am looking forward to being part a group of professionals that truly care.
